CV

Here is an example of my CV, I have decided to make it similar style to my business and I think they go together nicely.

Importance of Presentation

When creating my portfolio, it was important I present it right. This is to show professionalism but also my style. My designing style is very minimal and clean so it is important that my portfolio is an example of this. As you can see I have chosen the colours carefully the white, black, grey and brown go together well.

Content to my portfolio needs extending, however content will be gained through my FMP. Also some pages need developing but my portfolio is ready to go get a job.

More inspiration

looking at different things people think of. I feel this is really interesting a packaging which can be made into a hanger. I find it interesting how people can think of ways to reuse a material.

I like

Visually interesting and a clever play on words

I like this CD case

I am not usually a big fan of CD cases, but this one found here is brilliant. I like the way it is all linked together, making you relate the right CD to the right case visually.

I love the binding of this book how you can see process is really nice.

Mash Design

Take a look at Mash design website. www.mashdesign.com.au/

Inspiration

on the back are tokens that can be ripped off, there is an image on the front. I feel this adds a nice touch as each person will received different parts of the image on the front, making each token slightly different.

I have found a company called mash design. There work is great and if I had a chance I would love to work for them. However they are a australian company, so it would be quite unlikely. Some of there work is really inspiring to me.

Books

I love books with dust covers.

More books

Sections added to books are good, like this one these can be done using different sizes.

I LOVE BOOKS

I love book, I love all the extra touches adding to book. This is what makes them special. This example shows a small book which has been hand bound. This way of producing books makes the book very personal.

I LOVE BOOKS

Hands on approach

As part of my final major project I have decided to make use of the college facilities, which includes screen printing and letterpress, I feel these are valuable skills to further my development into different processes designers will take to produce outcome.

Final Business Card

Here are my final business cards. I have chosen to keep them simple, because I feel they look better this way. Also there is lots of space on them for me to add any extra info by hand if needed. I decided to do them on a brown paper to add a little more to them.

Print Contacts

Through my research and professional opportunities I have found that there is alot more process within graphic design. The printing process really excites me. I have found a couple of good print contacts which I will definitely use within my profession.

Team Printers in Leeds are a brilliant printing company, to print to a very high standard, however they are quite expensive. You can find them on their website www.team-impression.com

Another print company I have been fortunate to use is Bermuda, Leeds. These printers are better for short runs, also leaflets and posters. www.bermudadigitalprint.co.uk

Cool Business Cards

I have found a website with cool business cards on here are just a few that catch my eye. http://creativebits.org/cool_business_card_designs

Embossed Business Cards

I am Also loving embossed business cards. I feel a completely white business card with embossed type works really well. The simplicity looks really professional.

I would prefer to have my own business card embossed, however this has proven to be expensive, also in the near future I would like to set up a website and more details would obviously be added. This is something I will be thinking about soon.

Business Cards

Looking at business cards I have chosen ones I like. The reason I like these cards is because they are minimal.

Fun Websites

At the minute I am loving www.typographyserved.com

FMP

I have now decided 'what I would like to be when I grow up' and that is a Graphic Designer. Although I do realise I need to play catch up as I have spent the last two years trying to figure out where I fit.

For my FMP I have decided to concentrate my study in typography. This is a key area of graphic design and an interest of mine. The idea is to learn everything I need to know about typography so I can leave college with a good understanding of the graphic design industry.

Book Design Project

Following the success of the Marc Riboud Book, I have been given the opportunity to be the designer of a new book. This is very exciting as this will be my first completely live brief, working to a real deadline and being given a budget. I feel as a designer I am moving myself forward as far as professionalism. I feel this project will help me learn more about the printing process, typography, layout, time management and working with clients.

D&AD at the Urbis Manchester

This afternoon I attended an D&AD education day at the Urbis Manchester. This gave me the chance to get critiqued on my portfolio. I'm glad this has come now as I have had to get my portfolio together.

I had my critique with 'Fudge Studios', he gave me some good pointers. He thought my portfolio was not specific to graphic design and suggested I needed to specify this more. I totally agree, my portfolio doesn't shout out Graphic Designer as mush as I would like it to. There are areas missing and before a finish the course I would like to be satisfied with my portfolio.  This said I still like to have a varied portfolio, I feel its a good quality to show that I am a multi- disciplined designer.

Towards the end of the day I had chance to show my portfolio to 'Thoughtful'  They were so enthusiastic about my portfolio and were interested in all my projects in my portfolio. This gave me alot more confidence in realising the area of design was right for me.

From my day at Urbis, I have more of an idea of what companies are looking for, and each company are looking for different qualities. Its finding the job which suits me also. I have also thought more seriously about career prospects and that Manchester is a city I would love to work in. This has given me some direction when looking for jobs.
